Your new windows have arrived on site and you’re ready to install! There are three ways to install your European windows; Clip, Drill through Frame and Integrated Nail Flange. In this post, we will demonstrate how to use the Clip System. The Clip System is a standard install procedure in Europe, however, mostly unfamiliar with Contractors in the States. In just 4 simple steps, we will walk you through a successful clip install.
Note: Flashing system is not shown for clarity in these images. All windows should be properly flashed with a water resistant barrier and sealed prior to installing windows. (!!)
- After confirming that the rough opening is level, plumb, square and correctly sized, install a 3/8” non-compressible shim and at any intermediate weight bearing vertical frame member (applies to multiple-unit window assemblies) about an inch from each corner.
- The clips are installed by laying them parallel within the interior channel on the window frame, then turn clip perpendicular to window frame to engage the prongs.
IMPORTANT: In some cases, depending on your wall thickness, the clips might project beyond the face of the wall. If this is your situation, it’s best to precut the clips to length before they are installed.
Clip Placement Diagram:
Center the window in the rough opening. Level the frame using tapered composite shim on top of previously installed 3/8” shims at bottom corners.
Secure all clips to the rough opening using heavy duty construction screws with a minimum length of screw fastening to 1.5” or more solid wood.
Installing windows with the Clip System, although different, it is not difficult. For further support, we offer a field service technician, available upon request. You can also view the entire install process here. It is our goal to ensure you have the most successful install possible!
