Glo Windows has a rich history in high performance building techniques in order to create energy efficient building envelopes. Our aluminum windows boast high r-values, ensuring thermal responsibility. Solar Plexus‘ background is in solar electric systems, thermal solar heat sources and hydro technology. So, when we were first introduced to the Solar Plexus project it felt like a fortuitous collaboration.
Their goal for the project was to facilitate large windows and door openings for optimal natural light, modern aesthetic and thermal performance. The three apartments are situated above their main place of operation, taking full advantage of the commercial lot. The dual-use building has tilt turn windows for optimal ventilation and function. The large Lift and Slide doors serve as a great access point for the multiple balconies. For safety, the apartment windows are equipped with an optional window-stay, reducing the turn function for occupancy safety. This allows egress, ample breeze, in addition to occupancy safety.
The Glo A5 double pane Series was selected for satisfactory energy efficiency. The double pane windows, multiple air seals, larger continuous thermal break and high performance spacers eliminate condensation and heat-convection while providing durability to last the lifetime of the building. These features, combined with Solar Plexus’ Photovoltaics electric system in place, creates a truly green living habitation.
The modern aluminum frames and stainless steel handles aid in the overall contemporary aesthetic seen throughout the space. The fenestration proportions create an atmosphere of spaciousness with abundant natural light. The apartment windows and doors are a deep charcoal color to add visual depth and contrast. The simple color palette is repeated with the dark floors, white cabinets and mid to dark tone countertops. The wood accents are subtly seen throughout the apartment as baseboards, raw edge shelves and peninsula surround adding visual warmth and design interest. The Solar Plexus apartments are the epitome of thermal performance coupled with style.
